“4 Methods Of Improving Confidence Tremendously” is part of a three month writing challenge I’ve been posting on Medium. To view the article, click here. To learn more about this writing challenge, click here.
Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers, you cannot be successful or happy. — Norman Vincent Peale
Confidence in ourselves is an important tool. It rises up and it sinks down based on varying circumstances. As such, there are many reasons for us to lose confidence just as much as there are strong and gainful sources of confidence.
Here are some of them.
Having A Why
The most beautiful thing you can wear is confidence. — Blake Lively
I’ve already talked before about the power of why, but there is still no harm in reiterating it again.
When you have why, a deep and meaningful why, you can leverage it to push yourself forward.
Of course, it helps you to take action, but it’s a source of confidence as setting a why encourages you to connect your goals with what you value as a person.
If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life. — Marcus Garvey
Asking questions in our lives provides depth to our lives.
I know that it might sound like an unusual source of confidence but it does make sense.
To learn, we ask questions.
If we are stuck, we ask questions.
To learn more about ourselves, we ask questions.
Questions and then answers can provide deep clarity for ourselves and where we want to go. Provided we ask the right ones.
When we lack confidence it means we lack self-esteem and belief in ourselves in certain abilities. These, in turn, can control and steer our lives in various directions.
So it does make sense to ask ourselves questions to further identify this lack, and why it’s controlling us.
Here are some good questions that can lead you into that. The article also talks about how to structure the right kind of questions so you can grow from them rather than drag yourself down.
Do Something That You Fear Or Have Put Off
You just have to be yourself and go full with confidence and be courageous. — Gabby Douglas
We have a lot of things that we’re scared to admit or that we put off time and again, but they can be overcome.
To overcome it, it’s a matter of boiling it down to identifying what we lack.
The reasons can be many, but what’s also key to know is we procrastinate for the same reason.
Why procrastinate on something that is inherently good for you? It can be from us lacking something in our lives.
Instead of putting it off, take a few bold steps towards it.
Make a commitment (or a why) to taking a few steps every day.
Yes, it’s terrifying.
It’s supposed to be.
If it were easy you’d have already done it.
But taking action, any kind of action can be emboldening and boost your confidence. You crushed the excuses and the doubt that is resting in your heart and you are pushing forward with bolder and braver steps.
Set Yourself Up To Win
The final source I want to talk about with gaining confidence is setting yourself up to win. What this means is setting goals that are easy to achieve.
I’ve said before we want simple goals that aren’t too difficult, but also not laughably easy that you get bored of it.
You want to be following that same principal with confidence.
Make things easy and take baby steps that feel like big steps for you.
Meaning they are simple, yet challenging enough for you to keep going.
A lot of people lose confidence because they set unrealistic goals. We put at risk our brain shutting down and us not achieving those goals. It does this because it gives room for doubt and lowering of self-esteem.
Unless we indulge in positive self-talk and bolster ourselves, it’ll be a struggle.
Avoid this problem entirely and give yourself a break, but make it challenging.
Play up how easy it is to take the leap and succeed when you do do it in your head.
Our confidence needs to be strong in order for us to achieve things in our lives.
When it’s not, a lot of things crumble and we end up hurt and in a worse position than before.
It’s up to you to bolster your confidence and to keep working on it day by day.
Yes, there will be times where it gets shut down from various things. But having the right sources and mentality will help in bringing you back up onto your feet.
To your growth!
